MIXED MEDIA--SMALL WORKS ON PAPER

Nancy Lande's mixed media works on paper are original works created from found and recycled objects she has collected over the years that reflect the rich history, textures, and colors of her Montana surroundings. The media generally range from aged books and music, coins and paper monies, antique photos, dried leaves, scraps of rusted metals, long-forgotten letters, vintage maps, sewing objects and materials, weathered buttons, seeds, feathers, homespun wool, and canceled global stamps. These objects were collected from nature, blacksmiths, ranches, the streets, and the personal memerobilia of people in Montana. The pieces are assembled and then reworked with paint, chalk, oil pastels, charcoal, fabrics, papers, and homemade dyes.

"Nancy Lande has gleaned not only the found objects of her lifelong interests, but the lost fascination of personal and cultural history. What she loves most is the texture and composition of functional materials that are packed with the lyrical visual poetry of Montana."
